She had come to him because she could think of no better place to go. He knew that, and understood what it meant, but didn’t resent it. She was prepared now to spend the rest of her life with him, however long that might be. The moaning and screaming and gunfire they heard outside was a constant reminder that it would likely not be long at all. The commitment she had feared so much before was weirdly and tragically easy now. He held her in his arms, intoxicated by the mingled scents of sex and sweat and fear and death.

Zombie Drabble #25
This time last year he was sleeping it off on friend’s couches, owed twenty grand to people who would send nasty letters if they only had an address, and another ten to people who wouldn’t bother with letters. Not to mention a warrant out for his arrest on charges of battery in the state of Kentucky.
None of that mattered now. He’d quit drinking first off: had to stay alert to stay alive. The walled town needed good riflemen, and he could shoot. For the first time in his life he felt good about himself, like he had a purpose.
Zombie Drabble #24
We got as far as the river this time. The ADC map is old, but we can still make things out. The roads and highways are mostly still there, though grass grows up through wide cracks in the pavement and most of the overpasses are down. Scattered buildings, nothing big, mostly empty shells without roofs; but there’s bricks to be had if we want to expand. Ran into a couple old dried up walkers, almost skeletons. No sign anywhere of other settlements.
The kids don’t get why we’re freaked out by it all. This is just the world to them.
