SF Drabble #402 "Be The You You Remember Being"

"How long will this take?"

They always ask, as though they had somewhere to be. "A few hours. Do you have someone to drive you home? You may be dizzy or drowsy, or both. Best not to operate heavy—"

"My car has A.I."

"Good. Now just lie down in the tank… there we go." I put the mask on her myself: they always get it wrong if you let them do it.

The tank filled with goo; I only stayed long enough to make sure she wasn't panicking. I'm over the novelty of standing there watching the years melt away.

  1. Excellent. I like how succinctly you tell a very future now story.

    1. the irony of having a typo on the word typo when you're announcing that you fixed a typo is almost too much to bear.

  4. Oh my gaaaaaaahhhhd, for some reason this creeped me out! Probably something to do with my love-hate relationship with advances in technology. On one hand I can't help being a total geek and getting excited about new gadgets/tech. On the other hand, advances in technology seem to offer more and more opportunities to not be happy with what we have.

    Anyway, wonderfully written.

    1. Thank you. :-) Yeah, I was more angling for the vanity of the whole thing (hence the tie-in to 'pretty') rather than the inherent creepiness of it but I suppose it comes through on its own. ;-)

  5. That's what everyone is looking for, the Youth Goo.
Alas, youth is wasted on the young, regardless.

  7. oh my . . . after just reading about gen M-Y at Sam's an now youth goo . . . y'all (why, yes I DID just return from TX, why do you ask?) are keeeeeling me. The best part of getting older - at least for me - is that nobody seems to beleive I am as old as I am. Could be a blessing in disguise I guess.

I digress - love this!!! Great writing as always. Now, pass me some goo, please. And you may go, you need not watch. :)
